1. International Hybrid‑Mode Conference on Healthcare Communication (28 December 2023, Hong Kong)

Hosted at the Jockey Club Auditorium, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, this hybrid (in-person and online) conference brought together over 300 participants across disciplines. Jointly organized by City University of Hong Kong’s English Department and PolyU’s School of Nursing, with support from the Hospital Authority and HKSAR Government’s PASS scheme.
The event featured 10 expert presentations from Hong Kong, Mainland China, Southeast Asia, Australia, Europe, and the U.S., covering themes like stigma, cultural sensitivity, patient safety, interprofessional collaboration, simulation-based education, translational research, and more. It also included a panel focused on practical experiences in nursing handovers.
The goal was to foster safer, more compassionate healthcare via improved communication. The conference concluded with a call to integrate patient‑safety insights into research, training, and clinical practice while encouraging collaboration and innovation .


2. The International Conference on English-medium Education (EME) (Link to Website) took place on April 26, 2024, at City University of Hong Kong’s Creative Media Centre and was attended by scholars, educators, and postgraduate students from Hong Kong and overseas.
Organized by the Department of English, the one-day hybrid event focused on the theme “Developing teachers’ and learners’ academic language skills and abilities,” with the goal of deepening understanding of how English-medium instruction (EMI) can better support academic literacy in diverse educational contexts. The conference featured keynote and plenary talks by internationally renowned scholars, including Professor Samantha Curle (University of Bath), Dr. Gene Thompson (Rikkyo University), and Professor Angel Lin (Education University of Hong Kong), alongside leading researchers from HKU, CUHK, PolyU, and the University of Macau. Highlights included paper presentations on EMI pedagogy, teacher development, and student engagement, as well as a panel discussion that encouraged cross-institutional dialogue on integrating content and language learning. The event created a valuable platform for sharing innovative research and classroom practices, strengthening international collaboration, and informing policy and curriculum design for EMI in higher education.
